MEL Gibson has been ‘cancelled’ now for most of this century.
The man who starred in Mad Max and Gallipoli and directed Braveheart and Apocalypto hasn’t been able to get a decent gig in Hollywood for a long time.
Cue one of his mates, Mark Wahlberg, who no doubt helped Mel land the job of directing him in 2025’s Flight Risk.
The result is a serviceable, stripped-back thriller that doesn’t reach any great heights thanks mainly to a flawed script.
Michelle Dockery, best known from the television series Downton Abbey, actually plays the lead role of a US Air Marshall escorting a captured fugitive turned State witness.
For a couple of reasons, laboured in the script, Dockery’s character has to use a privately chartered light aircraft to transport her prisoner to a small Alaskan airfield.
Topher Grace plays the smart-ass, wise-cracking prisoner and Wahlberg the equally annoying pilot, Daryl, who for some reason comes with an annoying Southern accent.
The film tries hard to be funny and suspenseful, but only succeeds some of the time.
