Pine shines in fantasy romp

Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves ★★★

YOU don’t have to a fan of the Dungeons and Dragons game to enjoy the latest film version, Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves

In fact you probably don’t even need to know it is based on a game.

It’s an entertaining medieval romp from start to finish with knights, witches, sorcerers, fair maidens (who are actually the toughest people in the film), all manner of monsters and even an overweight dragon.

The cast all have great fun, in particular Chris Pine in the lead role and Hugh Grant as the villain.

While it does feel a little episodic there is enough in the narrative not to make the film look like a series of game-like challenges, as has befallen other previous game-based efforts.

The story isn’t exactly ground-breaking in any shape or form, but it’s well paced which is useful because you could argue that it’s a little too long overall.
