Top Ten Films of 1979

THERE are some modern classics in my Top Ten of 1979:

1. Apocalypse Now. Martin Sheen nearly died making this film

2. Alien. Great scene – the chest-bursting of course.

3. Mad Max. We’d never seen anything as thrilling in Australian film

4. Life of Brian. One of the greatest comedies ever made.

5. And Justice For All. Under-rated black comedy with Al Pacino.

6. Kramer v Kramer. Featuring two amazing actors at the top of their form

7. Being There. The brilliant Peter Sellers.

8. The China Syndrome. A cautionary political thriller that still resonates.

9. Hardcore. A hidden gem with the great George C. Scott.

10. Manhattan. Still one of Woody Allen’s best.
