Top Ten of 1976

MY personal cinema journey enters a great year – 1976.

1 Taxi Driver. One of Martin Scorsese’s best and in my top 10 of all time.

2 Rocky. One of the greatest underdog stories in cinema.

3 All The President’s Men. The best film ever made about journalism.

4. Network. Peter Finch, William Holden and Faye Dunaway all giving career-high performances.

5. Carrie. Introducing Sissy Spacek in one of the best Stephen King adaptations on film.

6. The Omen. Constantly entertaining horror; one of the best examples of Exorcist followers.

7. Marathon Man. A brilliant thriller with Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Oliver as the former  Nazi exponent of dental torture.

8. The Outlaw Josef Wales. One of Clint Eastwood’s best westerns.

9. Mad Dog Morgan. A hidden Australian gem featuring Dennis Hopper as the unhinged bush ranger.

10. The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea. A fascinating, dangerous romantic drama with the under-rated Kris Kristofferson.
