Kittens and gangstas do mix

DO GANGSTAS like kittens? According to the makers of Keanu they do.

In fact, they don’t just like them, they adore them and will kill anyone who looks sideways at their adorable little companion.

That’s the ridiculous, but often highly entertaining, premise of American comedy duo Key and Peele’s latest vehicle.

In the film’s opening action sequence, a pair of massive hired killers known as the Allentown Brothers, Smoke and Oil (also played by Key and Peele), take out a rival gang’s meth lab.

Along the way they happen upon a kitten that tames the savage beasts within. Later the kitten is catnapped and accidentally winds up at the door of a regular suburban guy.

He is recovering from a failed relationship and immediately latches on to the kitten which is subsequently again catnapped during a botched robbery lands up with another drug kingpin, Cheddar, who also falls in love with it.

The regular guy and his regular buddy (played by Key and Peele) then decide to act like gangstas, dubbing themselves ‘Techtonic’ and ‘Shark Tank’, in an extended attempt to retrieve Keanu.

That’s it…pretty much a one joke movie, but it’s a damned good one with lots of variations.

I particularly liked the running gag with Rell (Peele) posing Keanu in a range of model backdrops and outfits for a film calendar. It’s that stupid, but pretty good fun.
